Hey! My name is Emma Gray. I am a freshman and studying mathematics/economics at Lehigh. I am from Malvern, Pennsylvania and I am taking classes at home this semester. I have enjoyed baking desserts since I was 10 years old, and throughout quarantine I have expanded my own baking business. Although the science behind creating desserts intrigues me, decorating the products is my favorite part. I love being creative and making interesting designs. Decoration is one of the most important parts because “you eat with your eyes first”. I think of the things I bake as my art pieces. I want to take this class in order to understand how to take quality photos of my creations and edit them. Painting shoes is another hobby of mine. I made a pair of Lehigh inspired ones that I wear way too often. In high school I took a 2D Contract class, so I attached some pieces from that as well.

We have a Drawing class and a 2D Design class in our department that you might also enjoy. When we get to the book portion of the course, you might want to choose food photography so you can feature your desserts. If you Google food photography, you’ll find some really interesting ways that photographers work with food.
