This piece by Robert Frank executes and uses a short depth of field to add a story to this photo whether he was trying to or not. Without many background details being present, it draws curiosity to the audience making the mind wander on what situation this man can be in. Without research into the photo at first glance it can be a man drinking coffee before work, or a soldier drinking water. The lack of background information and the short depth of field allows the mind to wander at first glance with no prior knowledge on this photo.
This second piece by Robert Frank is an excellent example of Long depth of field. The detail of the curtains are in the foreground are blurry, but as we see the buildings and street become clear leading all the way to the hill. There is no sense of question what is being photographed besides where this is. The picture is clear and shows great detail until the eye can see no more.
These are good examples. Remember to put the titles and dates of the works in. The second piece has more depth of field in the midground.
