The composition of Mitra’s image is staged to add to the meaning of the image. The wide angled, almost panoramic, shot allows for more imagery and more story into the photograph. This composition allows for a juxtaposition between the background and the foreground – a city meant to look more organized, compared to the foreground of people who appear lost and unsure of direction.
The content of this image is also to juxtapose how the leaders on the billboard pictured are incapable of imposing order or direction to the people, suggesting irony as the text on the billboard reads “We will continue [on] the path of the imam and martyrs of the Revolution.” The models/civilians were directed to look disorganized and directionless in order to juxtapose that message.
