Zerb Mellish is a photographer who documents the Black Lives Matter movement. His images are empowering. He focuses mainly on people but also photographs signs and flags that support the movement. The images are both black and white and in color. The images are powerful because they feature people celebrating and protesting. It has more of a positively powerful impact than a sad and negative one. The images are dark but uplifting. They hold hope for change.
The image above was one that held a lot of power. The boy with his fist in the air shows that he is protesting for his rights. Mellish took this photograph from behind to show the anonymity of all the African Americas fighting for their rights in our country. His focus was this boy but there are clearly many more people in from of him fighting alongside him. The light shining on him is like a light from above showing hope and highlighting the Black Lives Matter movement.
