Inspiration for Book Ideas

Henri Cartier Bresson: “The Decisive Moment”

Henri Cartier Bresson: “The Decisive Moment”- From this series by Bresson I really liked how in some of the pictures (like the one seen above) he was able to use buildings to almost frame his subjects and create lines leading peoples eyes right to his subjects. I think I could use this technique in my book because I want to do street photography but in the past I tended to focus on more close up pictures but I think it would be interesting to see a mix of close up pictures and larger scale pictures where the subjects are smaller and the buildings/background are a bigger focus in the image.

Then They Came for Me: Incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II

“Then They Came for Me: Incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II”- From this series I enjoyed how in some of the pictures, like the one seen above, the photographer captured people looking at the camera but not necessarily posing. I think this way of photographing captures peoples true emotions at the moment the photograph was taken. I think it would be cool to use this technique in my book.

AIR by Vincent Laforet

AIR by Vincent Laforet- I thought this whole series was really interesting and although I obviously don’t have access to the same things he had in order to create these images I thought it was really cool how the LED lights combined with the dark sky really transformed some of his images. I think it would be cool to use the same technique of shooting at night and finding LED lights to illuminate my subjects in my book project.

  1. It is good to see that you gained some insights from these photographers that will help you with your approach to your book – the wide angle views and perspective views, the LED lights and candid portraits in street photography.
