Untitled Film Still #10 is part of a series of photograph’s that Sherman titled Untitled Film Stills. Cindy Sherman posed herself in wigs, outfits, and settings to depict women in stereotypical female roles. In Untitled Film Still #10, she is posed as a 60’s house wife, or, as she calls it, the “unhappy housewife”, in the kitchen. Cindy Sherman often represents and challenges gender-norms in her photography.
In the photograph, it seems that Sherman had just returned from the grocery store. The bag of groceries has ripped and likely fell out of her hands. She has a very stern and angry look on her face, staring at someone or something out of the frame. She is maybe glancing at what would be the “stereotypical husband”, not offering his wife any help, as she cleans up the mess on her own.
