All of these photographs I took at the steel stacks. I thought for this assignment in the stacks would be a great place to capture an exaggerated depiction of the emptiness and tiresome quantities of the pandemic. I also think that the steel stacks have some rich textures and shapes that make for very appealing photos.
Stay a while – I titled it as so because of the mascot on the park bench. The colours in the photo are dull and cold and the relaxed demeanour of the mascot is ironic amongst the rusted stacks, naked trees and cold steel.
Resurrection – I called it this because of the lamp post in front of the old chimney have similar shapes and it seems as though it is resurrecting. I like this picture because of the shapes and textures. I think every little detail in this photo is thought provoking.
Overgrown – This was my favourite of the three. I like this one because the architecture of the buildings makes it seem like this one building is a bunch of individual buildings competing for space. I think it is a bit chaotic in that the buildings are overlapped but it creates an interesting perspective on some old buildings.
I really liked the “Stay a While” photo I think the mascot sitting on the bench gives a scale for how big the steal stacks really are. Also I think it gives an otherwise kind of ominous looking dark photo (with the big run down steal stacks) some color and a bit of character because at first glance it kind of looks like a person but then you realize its a statue.
The echoed shapes in Resurrection and Overgrown are what draw them to me. You also have another one in this series with a sign on thee right that works well with the group.
