Montgomery, Alabama in 1960
Charles Moore captures the anger that some white Americans have towards the black and the blacks passive nature towards the violence that is inflicted on them. This event occurred the day after the 1960 attack when the black students were refused service in the whites-only cafeteria at the state capitol. After seeing the rebellious act from the students probably made these white folks angry towards the black community even to the point of refusing the black shoppers in the photo to shop in their business by kicking the shoppers out with violent.
Images like these raised public awareness nationally and this is how Charles Moore achieved his goal to “fight with [his] camera.”
