Made by Toshikio Okanoue in the 1950’s, this montage was created using images cut from Vouge and Life magazines. When asked about his inspiration, he said he created photomontages that “fit [his] dreams.” I love the composition in this piece as it frames the headless woman with the dogs nicely between the rays of sunlight and the trees. Likewise, the parachute with the head attached displays implied movement in the montage which is very effective. All in all, the work exhibits an eery feeling to the viewer only through creative collaging, composition, and framing.
