Olivia James Introduction

I was born in Morristown New Jersey on January 16th, 2001. I turned 20 this year which was very weird. 20 years of life does not seem real. I am a sophomore here at Lehigh studying psychology, business, and potentially fashion or photography. I am living off-campus in Bethlehem this semester with 4 other girls. Ever since I could remember, I loved taking photos. When I got to high school, I was fortunate enough to be able to take digital photography classes over my 4 years there. By senior year, I was in the portfolio class and my skills in photography were improved but nowhere near perfect. For our final senior independent project, I was fortunate enough to be able to travel to London and Paris to take photos of the landscape, people, city life, fashion, art, architecture, and etc. After this trip, my love for photography grew immensely. I really enjoy taking photos of people and animals the most. Portraits are the photos I enjoy taking the most. It feels as though I am capturing a moment in time that will never happen again. But I also really like transforming someone into a whole new character with makeup and wigs to create a portrait of someone unrecognizable, yet recognizable. When I got to Lehigh, I did not know what type of classes they offered or how challenging a photography class would be here. I was nervous to take this class because I believe I have an eye and a talent for photography but I feel like there is just so much more I need to learn. I am very excited to learn more about lighting, composition and so much more this semester. I have had around 5 years of experience taking photos for class but also for my mother and her business. I won two awards in high school for photos I took that I will share below. Thank you!

  1. Hi Liv,
Be sure to set a key image and make your gallery images linkable. Your street shots and still life are really strong. You will have an opportunity to do street photography early in March for this class. And in the book assignment, you can choose your subject so portraiture might be a direction.
