Short Depth of Field

Diane Arbus, Veteran with a flag, N.Y.C. 1971. Fraenkel Gallery

This a photo of short depth of field. The main character is the man holding a flag. He is in the middle of the picture and taking up most of the space in the composition. He is in focus which makes him stands out compare to the women in the background. the background is out of focus and blurry which gives the viewer a great scene of depth of field.

1963

This photo is an example of long depth of field. This is a Black and White photo. Every thing is focused in this photo. This is a portrait of three Russian midget. One of the women’s back is reflected in the mirror. They are sitting close to each other, that reveals their good relationship.

  1. In the second shot there is depth but the focus is soft in general. For long depth of field, you should find an example that has sharp focus from the foreground through the background. I can see why you picked this, but there are probably better examples. Your short depth of field is a good example.
