Social Justice

Stephanie Sinclair shot in Nepal capturing the terror in little girls eyes. In Nepal, child marriage rates are very high, making almost 41% of girls married before they turn 18. The photographs that Sinclair took show the essence of how the girls are treated through this process. The focus of this specific picture is on the little girls expression. The viewer can see how emotionally unready the child is for what is supposed to be a big step in life. The composition of the piece centers the jewel located on the girls forehead. This jewel is often called a bindi, which typically indicates that they are married. This jewel is what makes the piece effective to the viewers. Even when quickly glancing at the piece, it is the first thing you notice. The color choices adds to the piece, the vibrant green creates the girl to stand out when compared to the darker background.
