Sebastiao Salgado – Rwandan refugee camp of Benako, Tanzania, 1994

The black and white photograph is very powerful in portraying the hardships of being in a Rwandan refugee camp. We see young kids and dirty clothes with a hazy background and all in black and white. All of these things make for a memorable empathetic photograph. Salgado was known to document the poor and powerless to help bring attention to those in need.
