Garry Winogrand – New York City, 1968

In the photo we see a busy New York street. There’s trash, people, businesses, cars, buses that almost overcrowd the photo. Because of the volume of things going on, the photo has many stories to tell. We see the dogs eating garbage and wonder where they came from, who’s, if anyone’s, dogs are those? Who’s on the bus? Where is it going? The main reason I chose this photo however, is because of the man walking on the road. I thought it was super interesting because in a photo that isn’t so busy, I would’ve noticed that he’s extremely short right away, but in this photo, he seems to fit right in and go unnoticed in a way.

  1. Good observations and questions. The perspective of the shot also highlights the height differences between the foreground person and the man in the street.
