Street Photography

Dingle, Ireland. Todd Webb 1979. Vintage gelatin silver print. Gift of George Stephanopoulos

This image depicts an old man walking with a crutch on the side of the tree. It was taken by Todd Webb in 1979 in Ireland. I picked this image because of the shades and the contrasts of this picture stood out to me at first sight. The wall in the background was composed of 2 walls: one in light color and another in dark. There’s shade of another architecture falling on the light color wall while the old gentleman was also passing the door of that wall, which inevitably highlight the old man. Meanwhile, there were several messy shades of cable that accidentally converge at the door of the dark color wall, where the old man was also walking towards. I feel this composition interesting.

  1. There are several rectangles of light and dark values made by doors and windows and building shadows that create frames for the walking man. I agree, that this is an an interesting composition.
