Capa, Salgado, Sara

Documentary Photography

I really enjoy Robert Capa’s photography. His bright colors and normalcy that he captures feels although his documentaries may just be of every day life. They’re almost jarring seeing what life used to be like before masks and social distancing. His website doesn’t provide context to if there is significance to these photos but I think he captures a really serene scene of summer and the normalcy of real life in his street life and dancing shots.

Sebastião Salgado is a very different style photographer. His work is entirely in black and white and focusing on epic subject matter from across the world. The scenes he captures are unusual scenes, images we wouldn’t see in our daily lives versus walking down the street. Coal miners from India or landscapes from Alaska, he truly photographs what people might think of when they envision documentary photography, the images we may not see in our typical lives.
