Tableaux

Robert ParkeHarrison and his wife create pictures that emphasize the relationship between humans, technology, and nature. He states that his main theme is to “tell stories of loss, human struggle, and personal exploration within landscapes scarred by technology and over-use”. The picture I chose shows a man using a needle to thread two landmasses back together. The needle is unusually large in comparison to the man. The man was able to stitch some of the land together, but as he progresses it seems to look more challenging. As steam is escaping from the crevice and the area between the land gets further apart. The man is isolated and the only life in the piece. My interpretation of this piece is humans have destroyed nature and broke it apart, and we are the only species able to fix the mistakes. The single man represents how we as a society must right our wrongs and heal nature ourselves. We must progress and find new way to develop as a species without abusing our Earth. As we continue to treat Earth the same way, overtime it will become harder to reverse the changes.
