Civil Rights

Charles Moore captured this powerful black and white photograph during the Civil Rights Movement. The image portrays an African American man being attacked by police dogs. There is a large group of African American people behind, watching him get attacked. It is clear that the police are disrupting an anti-segregation protest. Moore was a white Southern journalist that was born and raised in Alabama. He was fighting against the Jim Crow discrimination by taking photographs to raise awareness about the violence surrounding the protests. He was there for many large historic events and captured these moments, even if they put him in danger. In this photograph, it looks as if one of the dogs is growling at him. He used his talents to raise awareness for important social issues, making his photography even more powerful.
