Cole Rise creates a composite image from a field of tan vegetation with a mountain in the background. A line divides the vegetation from the dark mountain, which creates a visually pleasing photo. The clouds are a dark gray which contrast the color of the field. A young man is inserted into this photo and appears to be jumping or levitating. A lot of Cole’s pieces highlight a person lifted from the ground. The man’s white shirt makes him stand out from the dark clouds, as he is the focus in this piece. His dark shoes also contrast the light vegetation. The levitation of the focus makes the viewer wonder and look at the piece longer to understand it. A lot of montages have this aspect of confusion and sense of imagination and loss of reality. This is something I want to use in my work with montages.
