Tilt-Shift Photography

This photograph by Christopher Chan portrays a miniaturized birds-eye view of an Apple store. The birds-eye view of this photo makes the figures appear to be real people when in reality, this is all a mini setup. Everything in the photograph and set is so realistic, from the Apple employee’s shirts to the boxes holding the Apple products. The glass walls of the scene encapture the modern aesthetic of Apple stores. The image is cut in half by the glass. The tilt-shift technique blurs out the surroundings of the image to clearly focus on one specific part of the image. In this photo, the glass walls surrounding the room are blurred, pulling the focus towards the floor of the store. The lights on the ground enhance the shadows of the people, making them appear tall like real people. Chan photographed this using 3xp HDR. This means 3 exposures in HDR. More exposures enhance the color range in photographs, clearly shown in this image.

  1. I think these are included in the tilt-shift gallery because they are not miniatures but real people made to look miniature. What is faked is that the TS lens was not used – the effects of blurred focus were done in post.
