Eugene Smith Tomoko Uemura in Her Bath

Tomoko Uemura in Her Bath

This photo look like an oil painting in it composition and lighting. The photographer Smith uses strong contrast of light and shadow tells a story of a mother holding her deformed daughter in the bath. This photo strongly reveals the huge damage made by the water pollution. The emotion sending through the photo to viewer is very strong and sad. People won’t see this tragedy until they see the photo. This photo shows a hopeless mother and how much damage this pollution has cost.

  1. Eugene Smith lived in the city for three years while he documented the effects of industrial water pollution and was instrumental in bringing justice to the people he photographed.
