Well, Well, Well: Picturing Wellness

Amputee, Victim of Landmine, Kabul, Afghanistan

I chose this image from the show as the image that best captures the exhibition’s concept statement. I chose this image because part of the concept statement is “Picturing “wellness” takes on many forms, and often exists in tension changing bodies: growing, confronting illness, or adapting to change.” As this man only has one leg, one might not think of him as an image of “wellness” but I think what makes him the picture of wellness is how is adapting. Although now on crutches, he has found a way to get out and play soccer.

  1. The Wellness exhibit signaled adapting to change at a time when we were faced with have to make adptations so images like this become even more poignant.
