Describe and Analyze Imogen Cunningham

Magnolia Blossom, Imogen Cunningham, 1925

I was immediately drawn to Cunningham’s Magnolia Blossom when looking at her work. I think the flower’s perfection and detail is truly incredible. I love the cropping she did on the flower where we can’t see anything besides petals and the center. The small spirals and layered detail on the flower is just so fascinating. The black and white also elevates the image to such a heightened level. I think it’s relevant to a digital artist today because editing was probably extremely necessary to play with the clarity and flawlessness of the magnolia flower.
