Mary Ellen Mark shot this black and white image at Oregon State Hospital in 1976. The emphasis of this image is the facial expression of the girl laying on the bed. She was covered by a white flat sheet up and only left her neck and head in the outside. She looked pain and pale. The muscles and eyes seemed to be rigid. Considering the content of this image that it was shot in a hospital, it could be a question of whether this girl was dead or alive. The two opposite ends were not far away from each other in this photograph.
